Arrest in fatal shooting of a teenager in Hollywood

Los Angeles police arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a teenage girl in Hollywood early Sunday morning who appears to have been captured in videos posted on social media.

Homicide detectives arrested the alleged shooter before noon on Sunday, Los Angeles Police Officer Mike Lopez said. The suspect’s name will be released later Sunday, police said.

The 17-year-old victim was shot dead near the popular intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue around 12:15 a.m. on Sunday and pronounced dead at the scene, Los Angeles Police Officer Luis Garcia said. The coroner has yet to reveal the identity of the victim.

As part of the investigation into the shooting, detectives are studying videos posted on social media that appeared to show the moments before and after the shooting.

“We have seen them,” said Garcia. “Detectives are going to check them.”

In a video, a man dressed in a black shirt, dark pants, and white shoes can be seen pitting a larger man wearing a white shirt, gray shorts, and sandals on the street.

It’s unclear what the context of the confrontation is about, but the man in the black shirt says, “You have to do something. [expletive] Like that? “And he pulls out a pistol from his waistband, holds it at his waist and pulls the slide back, apparently loading the weapon.

A third man who was watching the confrontation immediately hits and hits the gunman in the head twice from behind, knocking the gunman to the ground. When the gunslinger falls, the man she had confronted walks away. The man who hit the gunman continues his attack while another individual kicks the gunman.

The gunman appears to fire three quick shots as he stands up, dispersing the crowd. At that moment, the person recording the video moves to the sidewalk in the corner of the intersection, where a girl can be seen who was a good distance from the fight lying face down and without response.

A second video shows the female victim on the sidewalk seconds after the shots were fired. It also shows a vehicle making a donut at the intersection before the shooting, leaving the street covered in black skid marks.

In one of the videos, you can hear someone say, “They … shot him.” In the other, someone yells at the girl and tries to move her.

“The girl who was shot literally had nothing to do with anything and you’re just going to make the car scene hotter … RIP that girl,” says one of the video’s captions.
