Schwarzenegger’s spokesman Daniel Cachel said at the time that “Schwarzenegger’s planned operation at Cedars-Sinai was to replace a pulmonic valve that was originally replaced in 1997 due to a congenital heart defect.” “That 1997 replacement valve was never going to be permanent, and has outlived its lifespan, so yesterday he chose to replace it with a less aggressive catheter valve replacement.

“During that procedure, an open heart surgery team was formed, as they are often in these circumstances, if the catheter is unable to perform the procedure. Governor Schwarzenegger’s pulmonary valve was successfully replaced and he is currently recovering from surgery and is “In a steady state,” he said.
