The Arkansas Delta County Sheriff has resigned under pressure after a recording of a man he identified as delivering racist rent went viral. Arkansas County Sheriff Todd Wright resigned Friday at the request of the County Court of Appeals following reports that a five-minute circus recording was spread on Facebook by Pine Bluff Commercial this week.
This Recording He is the man who used racial slurs nine times after being upset that the woman who was with him talked to the black man in the grocery store. Meanwhile, the woman refers to the man as “Todd”.
County Judge Thomas Best, the county’s top elected administrator, said the quorum court decided to seek Wright’s resignation after the recording began circulating on Facebook on Thursday.
“I’m sorry that anyone disrespects God’s creation in this way,” Shrestha said. “By no means do I want to convey that I recommend for the mother to be inactive.”
KTHV, affiliated with CBS, reports that Wright made the statement in court, but after initially seeking an opportunity to “ensure his affairs”, the local pastor assured him of his immediate resignation. About an hour later, he turned his badge and gun into the gallery with a little applause.
Many outside the courthouse cheered with the resignation while wondering how much Wright’s resignation would change.
“Let’s just clean up the city,” said Consuela McCinzy, as she stood with her two college boys. “Clean up the city so we can have our kids live for free.”
Chief Deputy Randy Batman will serve as sheriff until a replacement is appointed or a special election is held, Best said.
Wright has been with the sheriff’s fee for 26 years, the last four as elected sheriff.
