A massive fire broke out near Phoenix on Wednesday morning after a train derailed, authorities said.
Tempe firefighters, paramedics, and police rushed to a rail bridge over Lake Tempe Town.
“This is a coordinated attack with various agencies fighting the fire involving several train cars,” said the Tempe police. Natalie Barela said in a statement.
“The cause of the derailment has not been identified. This is a very fluid and active scene.”
There were no immediate reports of victims of the derailment and fire, according to Tempe Police Chief Sylvia Moir.
“There are no known injuries at this time, but the scene is very dangerous,” Moir tweeted. “Stay away from Lake Tempe Town and away from the area.”
The Union Pacific train was carrying lumber, NBC affiliate KPNX reported. Union Pacific representatives could not immediately be reached for comment Wednesday.
The accident forced Loop 202, a major thoroughfare in the Phoenix metropolitan area, to close in both directions near the fire, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.
