Police in the Scottsdale suburb of Phoenix say a man who robbed a service station convenience store fatally shot a bystander before being killed in a savage shooting with another bystander
SCOTTSDALE, Arizona. – A man who was robbing a gas station convenience store fatally shot a bystander before he was killed in a savage shooting with another bystander, police said in the Phoenix suburb of Scottsdale.
The robbery suspect was also believed to have accomplished two robberies at gas station convenience stores earlier in the evening.
Scottsdale Police Sgt. Ben Hoster said the shooting erupted around 2:40 am when a man attempted to rob a Circle K store.
“He fired multiple rounds at the employee during the robbery when he was making money,” Hoster said. The gunman fatally shot a man as he entered the store. Hoster called him an innocent bystander. The employee managed to escape from the back without injury.
When the alleged thief left the store, he repeatedly shot a spectator in the parking lot, injuring him. The viewer then responded, killing the gunman.
The suspect was killed on the spot and the viewer was taken to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
None of the people involved in the shooting, nor the store employee, were immediately identified.
Detectives believe the same man stole two other Circle K locations previously: one in Scottsdale at 11:45 p.m. and one in Mesa around 2:15 a.m., Hoster said. In both cases, the thief opened fire inside the stores but no one was injured in those incidents.
