Arizona Department of Health Reports 3,536 New Coronavirus Cases, 4 Deaths

PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Health reported 3,536 new cases of coronavirus and four deaths on Sunday morning.

That brings the state’s documented totals to 98,089. COVID-19 cases and 1,809 fatalities

The single-day pandemic highs were 4,878 cases and 88 deaths, both reported Wednesday.

The Arizona Department of Health Services has been providing case updates and evidence on its website every morning. The dashboard includes, among other information, test trends, updated hospital capacity, and a zip code case map.

Daily reports present data after the state receives statistics and compiles them, which can take several days. They are not intended to represent actual activity in the past 24 hours.

With cases on the rise and hospitals filling up, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey put plans to reopen the state, closed bars, nightclubs, gyms, movie theaters, and water parks for at least a month and delayed the start of the campus. K-12 education for at least two weeks.

Ducey said he expects case counts to continue to rise for several weeks before the impact of the new policies appears on the data.

New cases have increased at a faster rate than tests, indicating the spread of a virus in the community that has no impact on some people and is seriously debilitating or fatal to others. Infected people who do not show symptoms can still transmit the coronavirus.

The positive percentage of PCR tests, which detect active infections, continues to increase.

There have been more than 603,000 PCR tests performed in Arizona, including 14,844 added to Sunday’s total. Of the total, 13.1% They have returned positive as of Sunday. The positive rate was 12.9% the day before and only 6.7% on the last day of May.

The weekly positive rate for PCR testing has increased every week since the week beginning May 10, when it was 5%.

Of the PCR samples collected last week that have been processed, 20% of the pandemic has tested positive. So far this week, that number is 21%.

Bed use in the ICU reached 89% in Arizona on Saturday, according to the latest state data, with an available supply of 178 beds. Thursday saw the highest rate of use (91%) in the state.

Overall hospital bed use was 84%, 2 percentage points lower than the pandemic maximum last seen on June 26.

The number of confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients currently in Arizona hospitals reached a record high of 3,182 on Saturday, when 1,465 COVID-19 patients were treated in emergency rooms.

In other notable hospital data from Saturday related to confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients:

  • 531 were on fans, an increase of 118 from the previous day.
  • 821 were in ICU beds, a record and an increase of 25 from the previous day.
  • 458 were discharged, 33 more than the previous day and 36 more than the previous maximum on Wednesday.
