The Apple Watch 6 like other future Apple Watch models could have better wireless networking system, bringing the Apple Watch everything closer to working autonomously from our iPhones.
In a patent filed by AppleInsider, Apple introduced a wireless antenna, built into the display of the Apple Watch, and provided an increased surface area compared to the current mechanism.
Although Apple did not indicate how much better the wireless connection is on an Apple Watch with an antenna in-display, but it seems certain that a larger receptor would offer an upgrade.
While Apple Watch models can work with LTE without an iPhone, we would still leave our iPhones at home.
It’s hard to imagine a future in which the Apple Watch will replace or be better than our iPhones, but maybe we’ve said the same about mobile phones replacing landlines.
Don’t think you can wear your handset so fast – we have an iPhone 12 launch coming soon, remember? This is just a patent, which means there is no guarantee that Apple will use this antenna system anytime soon.
That said, the company will likely take some small steps in that direction when it announces the Apple Watch 6 in the fall. The new smartwatch is rumored to offer a better battery life, a monitor of blood oxygen and more.
