Apple temporarily closes California stores as cases of the virus mount

Apple Play has temporarily closed all 53 of its retail stores in California after the number of coronavirus cases in its home state reached a new daily record this week. The list of stores on the phone manufacturer’s website reflects the change, which does not affect the border states of Arizona and Nevada.

The move shows how a large tech company is trying to reduce the spread of the virus to employees and customers despite potential business influence.

A spokesman for Apple Paul told CNBC. “Due to the current Covid-19 conditions in some of the communities we serve, we are temporarily closing stores in these areas,” he said in an email. “We are taking this step with caution as we are closely monitoring the situation and we expect our teams and customers to return as soon as possible.”

Customers repaired by Genius Bar over the next few days can still pick up existing orders and products, the spokesman said.
