Apple reveals eight winners of the 2020 Apple Design Awards after WWDC

After a full week of WWDC announcements, Apple has officially announced the winners of Apple’s annual design awards. The goal of these awards is to recognize developers for their “application design, innovation, ingenuity, and outstanding technical achievements.”

Apple has named eight game and application developers to receive an Apple Design Award this year. Winning developers typically receive a large bag of Apple products, including the latest Macs, iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watch. Apple has not confirmed which winning hardware developers will receive this year, but generally does not spare expense.

Head below as we detail all of this year’s well-deserved winners.

Apple Design Award Winners: Applications:

Dark room:

Bergen Co.’s Darkroom is a powerful photo and video editor whose interface is as beautiful as it is easy to use. It offers great performance with super intuitive controls and a design that both casual and professional photographers can truly appreciate. With Apple technologies including camera and photo APIs, quick home screen actions, context menus and tactics, Darkroom is a brilliant example of a high-end mobile editing tool.

Loom:

Looom, developed by iorama.studio, is an animation park inspired by music creation tools. The looped hand-drawn stop-motion animation in this playfully creative interface is designed for professionals and consumers alike. The deep functionality and intuitive interface of the application are complemented by new custom controls. Made for iPadOS, Looom uses Apple technologies, including Apple Pencil and Dark Mode to the fullest.

Shapr3D:

Shapr3D, by Shapr3D Zartkoruen Mukodo Reszvenytarsasag, is a powerful iPad CAD application that has the potential to dramatically transform the architectural and technical drawing workflow. Using just an iPad and an Apple Pencil, technical designers have access to a robust set of modeling tools to easily create complex 3D models. Designed exclusively for iPad, Shapr3D takes advantage of ARKit and drag and drop. Later this year, the app will use the LiDAR scanner to automatically generate a 2D floor plan and 3D model of a room, which can be used as the basis for designing room renovations or additions. The new design can be previewed to real scale using AR directly scanned in the room.

StaffPad:

StaffPad by StaffPad Ltd. brilliantly converts handwritten music notes into digital sheet music. Designed for composers who want an easy solution to write and compose music digitally, the app uses Apple technologies like Apple Pencil, drag and drop, and Core ML to transform each bar into beautifully composed music notation that can be edited with an intuitive touch. or Apple Pencil Tools.
