Apple reprimands Facebook for saying that iOS anti-tracking features are about ‘standing up for our users’


Following the barrage of criticism made by Facebook today, Apple is once again doubling down on its upcoming app tracking transparency feature. The feature will be available to users in 2021, and Apple Pal says it “doesn’t need to change its approach to tracking Facebook.”

In a statement 9to5MacApple Pal says the feature requires companies like Facebook to “give users a choice” when it comes to tracking. Apple Paul explains that the feature, “is a simple matter for our users to stay standing.”

“We believe this is a simple matter for our users to stand on. Users should be aware of when their data is being collected and shared on other apps and websites – and should have a choice as to whether or not to allow it. App tracking transparency in iOS 14, Facebook does not need to change its approach to tracking users and creating targeted ads, it just needs to give users a choice. “

Furthermore, Apple Pull emphasizes that the new tracking control features apply equally to all developers, including Apple Pull. The company points out that advertising is also possible with the new app tracking transparency feature, aimed at giving users more control over their data by requiring explicit consent.

Once available in 2021, the app can be accessed by opening the Tracking Transparency Feature Settings app, then finding the Privacy menu and searching the Tracking section. Here, users will be able to see which apps need permission to track them and can cancel or allow when needed.

Users will also see a pop-up message when they open an app for the first time since bringing this feature. Users will see notifications for new apps as well as those already on their devices. This pop-up is where companies like Facebook can explain to users why they should enable tracking.

Finally, Apple Paul points out that if it is made aware of an application that violates the App Store Guidelines regarding privacy and tracking, the developer will need to consider the issue if their application is to be discontinued.

Apple Play has also recently rolled out new app privacy labels on the App Store, requiring developers to disclose what data they collect and how it is used.
