Apple releases second macOS Big Sur public beta

Two weeks after the launch of the first public beta of macOS Big Sur, Apple today released the second iteration. The update comes just a day after Big Sur beta 5 for developers arrived.

macOS Big Sur includes a major refresh for the UI inspired by iOS. Other new features include Control Center, Safari enhancements, new messaging app features like pinned messages, customizable widgets, and much more.

If you are already enrolled in the public beta, you can check if the macOS Big Sur beta 2 is available on your Mac by going to System Preferences> Software Update.

Detected by my colleague Gui, a great big, big update might appear, but Apple notes that you can find an incremental update as a solution under the link “Another update is available – More info” in the software update.

If you have not yet installed the public beta and want to give it a spin, we have here a detailed walkthrough on how to get started with the free beta. Just keep in mind that it is not ideal to run it on your primary Mac.

Thanks, Eric!
