Apple Pal iOS 13.7 Release: Should You Upgrade?

09/05 Update below. This post was originally published on September 2

IOS Pal has landed iOS 13.7 and is an important upgrade for millions of users. But does it continue to work better than iOS 13.6.1, or does it cause more problems than it fixes? Early signs seem promising.

Tip: Bookmark this page because / I will keep it up to date when new issues are found. I will give my final verdict in a week.

Who is he?

IOS 13.7 is available for every iOS 13-compatible device. This means the iPhone 6S and the new and 7th generation iPod Touch. You should be prompted to upgrade automatically, but you can verify yourself by navigating Settings> General> Software Software Update. Beta testers, if you are running iOS 14 (more on this in the ‘next on the road’ section), you must unroll your iPhone otherwise iOS 13.7 will not appear. IPad owners, Apple Play has moved you to iPadOS. This is not an iPadOS focused guide, but I will touch on the right ones in these guides.

09/04 Update: Three days after its release, more errors are being reported by iOS 13.7 upgraders. This is the series Graphics Obstacles, Wifi And Cellular drop out To Face ID Mistakes And New Battery Drain Complaints. Despite the increase in problems, it still remains relatively different so if you choose to upgrade, there are differences towards you. That said, it would be worthwhile to wait until my final judgment (published on September 9) to make sure that more cautious iOS upgrades do not spiral the final troubles.

09/05 Update: More complaints about Wifi Dropping And Increased Battery The drain is surfacing. I still qualify the number of reports as a very small minority, but they are appearing. Personally speaking, I think the upgraded coronavirus exposure instructions (details below) are appropriate for this small risk. Will this lead to iOS 13.7.1? That’s possible, but Apple Play has announced that all iOS 13 supported iPhones will get iOS 14, not every bug needs to be fixed this time. Something that has happened towards the end of previous pay generations, where the old models were left behind.

Deal breakers

Yes, iOS 13.7 will break your jailbreak. Although the leading jailbreaker Unsecure is still stuck on iOS 13.5 at the time of release, Apple Paul has a hand in this endless game of cat and mouse again.

For everyone else, the first 24 hours are promising. This is the third successive release without major problems and it shows that Apple’s iOS 13 is under control, especially after its tumultuous start. Yes, there are some different questions being reported – Face ID barriers, Podcast playback errors, Leave WiFi And Dental problems With the new exposure notification feature (further) – but most upgradeers aren’t reporting any issues. Redditters also seem happy.

So what do you get?

Oddly enough, Apple’s official iOS 13.7 release notes instead state:

“IOS 13.7 Files introduces new memoji stickers and iCloud Drive folder sharing from the app. This update also includes bug fixes and improvements. “

While the features described by Apple Pal are self-descriptive, the real reason for the existence of iOS 13.7 is that it introduces a new exposure notification system to help fight the coronavirus epidemic. Unlike iOS 13.5, the new system no longer requires a separate application to be downloaded and the exposure notifications are built directly into the settings.

Navigate Settings> Exposure Notifications And Turn on ‘Turn on Exposure Notifications’ and you will be warned if they come in contact with someone suffering from Covid-19. This data, developed in collaboration with Google, comes from local health officials and is completely anonymous, so I strongly advise you to enable it to help yourself and others. You can learn how it works in detail here. Initially, Maryland, Nevada, Virginia, and Washington Washington DC are expected to join other states (and countries) soon.

Speaking of security patches, Apple’s official security page confirms that iOS 13.7 has nothing. While this is unusual for the ‘main point’ release, this is no ordinary iOS update and we live in extraordinary times.

Apple Pull iOS 13.7 Trend: So Far Better

If you like running the latest iOS update as soon as possible, the good news is that there is no clear red flag in the first 24 hours since iOS 13.7 was released. More cautious upgraders will still be prudent to wait, as a growing number of iPhone updates can cause problems, but iOS 13 is no longer a dumpster fire.

I will continue to monitor the reports and deliver my final iOS 13.7 judgment in a week in this article.

The way forward

Apple Pal is now in beta on iOS 14 and, at the time of release, the seventh is imminent. It’s Apple’s most ambitious upgrade over the years, bringing home screen widgets (finally), an app drawer (aka ‘app library’), compact call and series instructions, picture-in-picture video, compliant messaging, Apple rules Maps, advanced language translations and much more. Critically, it already looks a lot more stable than iOS 13.

At a time when many need to be rescued, the good news is that iOS 14 will also be available for every iOS 13-compatible device. This means that the 2015 iPhone 6S is alive for another year. With major Android manufacturers recently committing to three-year pay generation updates, Apple is a mile ahead of the competition here.
