After some initial confusion surrounding how the AirPods Max handles power management, Apple Play has tried to clarify the issue from the updated support page showing how and why its new $ 550 headphones automatically protect battery life.
Originally, the company said that “when stored in their soft, thin smart case, the AirPods Max Max introduces an ultra-low-power state that saves charge.” But there was uncertainty about what happens when they are left behind Out Lawsuit. In my review, I found that headphones lose only a few battery percentage points when left overnight without a case – nothing close to the worrying level of the drain. But not everyone had that experience; Marcus Brownlee observed more damage to the battery tray when the AirPods Max was idle.
According to Apple Pal, the AirPods Max enters “low power mode” when the car is removed from your head and stays out of the case for five minutes. If they are left in that position for 72 hours, they go into it The following Power mode that switches to Bluetooth and features like Apple’s Find My Location Tracking. This, inevitably, seems to be the case when they actually “close”.
But somewhat surprisingly, the smart case doesn’t immediately trigger this sleep-in sleep mode as quickly as I would have thought. Inserting the AirPods Max into the case immediately puts it in mild low power mode. But it takes 18 hours of headphones in a smart case to get into ultra-low power mode. When the case factor is done, Apple Pal never mentions that the headphones must be “stable” to enter these conditions. But the fact that the AirPods Max takes about 24 hours to get to the point where they give the battery maximum – even in that case – is a little surprising to me.
Clearly, the company is prioritizing faster device connections and convenience over every last part of the battery from AirPods Max. One big question is what happens if the headphones are left on when worn around your neck; They are not static in this view, so my guess is that they remain fully active without being picked up and placed on a table or stand. It is possible that Apple Pal could adjust these default behaviors via firmware updates, but for now, AirPods Max works this way.
If I’ve seen a minimal battery drain, and as I say in our video review, I still want them to have a power button. For the sake of simplicity.
