  • Apple is rumored to have made $ 360 million from Fortnite before launching the game from the App Store.
  • $ 1.2 billion was spent on the game during that period.
  • Google has meanwhile earned $ 10 million from the Play Store version of the shooter.

You knew Apple was a big source of revenue when it pulled Fortnite out of the App Store in its Epic Games price range. However, it is now clearer how much the tech giant stands to lose.

Business Insider has received estimated SensorTower indicating that Apple has generated roughly $ 360 million in revenue from Fortnite since the Battle Royale shooter reached iOS. Players have spent a total of about $ 1.2 billion on passes and V-Bucks in the otherwise free-to-play game, and people have downloaded it 133.2 million times.

The title generated $ 43.4 million in total revenue and 2.4 million installations in just the past 30 days, SensorTower added.

Google’s revenue was significantly lower before Fortnite was removed from the Play Store. That, however, is not surprising, since Fortnite only launched on the store in April 2020. The Play Store version has generated $ 10 million of total spend to date with 11 million downloads, according to estimates. About $ 3.3 million and 2 million installations came within the past 30 days.

Apple and Google do not make the decisions to bring the game to light, in other words. Their 30% cut gave them a lot of money, and they stand to lose a lot if they do not reach a deal. They will make significantly less if they lower their share to please Epic, however.

This also illustrates the size of Epic’s gamble. While it can still count on revenue from downloads from non-Play Store Android, computer users and console gamers, it still risks a large amount of revenue by giving up many of its mobile outlets. If this move does not deserve it, Epic may not have much choice but to return if it wants to keep the massive gains it has enjoyed so far.
