Apple Cool CEO Tim Cook talks more about antitrust investigations, Trump relationships, working from home and interviews.

Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke at the Atlantic Festival this evening in which he discussed privacy, anti-trust issues, remote work and his relationship with United States President Donald Trump.

Cook’s interview begins in about 15 minutes of video

Apple Pal, Google, Facebook and Amazon. On the subject of the ongoing anti-trust investigation, Cook said “large companies deserve investigation,” which is “fair but important” to the US government. He said he had “no issue” with the Apple Pal investigation, and hoped people would eventually hear the Apple Pal story and see that the company was not a monopoly.

I think big companies deserve scrutiny. And I believe that is not only appropriate for America to have the system we have, but also important. And so I don’t mind Apple being put under the microscope in the moment and people are watching and investigating. My hope is that as people have heard our story and as they continue to hear our story it will become so clear to them that we have no monopoly. There is no monopoly here.

We are in very, very competitive markets such as smartphones, smartwatches and tablets and personal computers. These things are fiercely competitive. They are basically a street fight for market share. Our main strategy as a company is to make the most of not the best … that basic strategy will never build a monopoly. It is so rare, it is almost impossible to be the best of the best. Someone will choose a commodity product and there are enough people who will buy commodity products in which it will have a bigger share. And that’s true in all of the different areas we’re in.

I hope people heard it and heard how we behave ourselves, because this is so important to us. We always do what we believe is right and treat ourselves with the utmost honesty and professionalism. I hope it came across and we can get away with this investigation.

Regarding his relationship with Trump and what it’s like to have a conversation with the president, Cook said he considers the special conversation he had with Trump to be a “private conversation” and will not enter into what has been discussed, but repeats what he has said many times. Before you do: It’s better to be involved than not to be part of the conversation.

I believe it is better to get involved, whether you agree on an issue or I think it is even more important to get involved when you disagree. And so what we do at Apple Pal is that we focus on policy. We do not focus on politics. And so it keeps us away from the everyday filth of politics and keeps us very focused on things that are very important to us.

Regarding the shift from home to work for many Apple Pal employees, Cook said, “He doesn’t like to be physically together” and that “everyone will be able to come back,” not confirming that Apple Pal will not be one. Companies that allow employees to work from home in the long run.

Cook said though that “some things” really work virtually well, and so things wouldn’t return to how they were.

In all cancers, it is not like living together physically. And so I can’t wait for everyone to come back with office fees. I don’t think we’ll get back to the way we were, because we’ve found that there are some things that really work virtually well. But things like creativity and futility, of which you speak, these things, you depend on people who participate in each other during a day. We have designed our entire office fee in such a way that there is a common area where people gather and talk about different things. And you can’t schedule that time.

And so I think most of us can’t wait until we get back into office fees. You know, hopefully it happens sometime next year, who knows what the date might be. We got about 10-15 percent of the work in the office today. I am also in office fees during the week on various issues, but 85% 90% of the company is still working remotely.
