Not long after sparking a possible NFL retirement, free agent wide receiver Antonio Brown recently asked the league to complete its investigation of his multiple problems off the field, with the apparent intention of resuming his playing career. Now, with training camps about to open across the league, an official suspension for Brown could be imminent, and also pave the way for the former Pittsburgh Steelers star to sign with the Seattle Seahawks.

That’s according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, who reported Monday that “the NFL news about Brown” may be coming, along with renewed interest in the Seahawks’ opening:

League rumors Sunday said Brown could receive news this week. If it’s cleared, or if the suspension is short, expect to hear rumors about Seattle possibly also chasing Brown again.

Russell Wilson is known to advocate that Seattle try to sign Brown – the two have worked together this summer in Southern California.

Neither the notion of an impending suspension announcement nor the rumored interest in the Seahawks are new. CBS Sports NFL member Jason La Canfora told CBS Sports Radio on Monday that he suspects the league will announce a “some time period” suspension for Brown before Week 1. And Wilson, the star quarterback Seattle has been linked to Brown before, with ESPN Radio’s John Clayton reporting in May that Wilson “would love” to team up with former standout Steelers.

Still, ongoing speculation suggests that the Seahawks are, in fact, weighing the possibility of adding Brown, even if the WR isn’t available by the start of the season. Seattle has also been linked to Josh Gordon, who ended 2019 with the club and is working to be reinstated from an indefinite suspension, and is believed to be in the market for help from WR.
