Anti-Trump activists plan protests, concert to disrupt President RNC acceptance speech

Anti-Trump activists are organizing protests and a concert to make noise in downtown Washington, DC, with the intention of disrupting the president’s planned foreign acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention on Thursday night.

President Trump will formally accept the Republican nomination from the White House and deliver a speech to close the South Lawn convention. Fences and barriers were re-reinforced outside the White House ahead of expected demonstrations.

A firework display is expected at the Washington Monument at the end of his remarks.

Organizing group Shutdown DC announced that it would “Trump’s party” crash with a rally Thursday night.

The action began this afternoon with a “Power to the People Rally for Workers Rights” held outside Jeff Bezos’ Washington, DC, home.

Protestants appeared to build a guillotine in the driveway of Bezos. Guillotines were used to behead French elite nobility during the French Revolution.

The protests drew about 100 and demanded a $ 30 minimum wage from Amazon.

“Give a good reason why we do not earn a $ 30 minimum wage if this guy earns $ 4,000 a second,” said former Amazon employee Chris Smalls, according to the Washington Examiner. This week, Bezos became the first person ever worth $ 200 billion.

Grassroots organizers are planning a “Target Party” at the Black Lives Matter Plaza from 7:30 pm to midnight. The party will feature three stages and five DJs.

Then from 9pm to 11pm, the scheduled time of the convention, Shutdown DC plans to hold a “Drown Out Trump Live GoGo Show and Noise Demo” with live performances on the corner of 17th St. and Pennsylvania Ave.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said it had not issued a permit for such a concert, but that doing so would fall under the jurisdiction of Park Police. Park police disputed that, saying that 17th and Pennsylvania, where the concert is planned, is a city street and therefore MPD would be responsible for issuing such a permit.

A spokesman for the Park Police also expressed confusion over whether it would actually be possible to hold a concert there, given how close it is to the White House and how the entire area is closed off by piles.

Organizers are also planning a yoga session, a vigil to honor Black Lives lost by “state violence in the DC area,” and a “Paint and Protest” event at Black Lives Matter Plaza.

A fresh round of protests has hit the nation’s capital following the shooting of 29-year-old Jacob Blake by police in Kenosha, Wis., Who reportedly paralyzed him from the waist down.
