Anthony Mackie is speaking.
The 41-year-old actor recently joined Daveed Diggs for a virtual version of Variety’s Actors on Actors series, in which he talked about diversity, or lack thereof, within the Marvel Studio movies.
The actors were talking about the Black Lives Matter movement when Diggs, 38, asked Mackie how he was “interacting with the moment.”

“When ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ comes out, I’m the leader of the show. When ‘Snowpiercer’ came out, you’re the show’s leader. We definitely have the power and ability to ask those questions,” Mackie stated.
“It really bothered me that I’ve made seven Marvel movies where every producer, every director, every specialist, every costume designer, every personal assistant, every person has been white.”

Mackie will star in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” on Disney + in the coming months, making him one of the only black people to lead a project within the Marvel Studio cinematic universe, in addition to Chadwick Boseman in “Black Panther.” . “
The “Detroit” star said there was only one black producer involved in the Marvel movies, Nate Moore, who worked on “Black Panther.”

“But then when you do ‘Black Panther,’ you have a black director, black producer, black costume designer, black choreographer,” said Mackie. “And I think it’s more racist than anything else, because if you can only hire blacks for the black movie, are you saying they aren’t good enough when you have a mostly white cast?”
The actor said he is now pressuring Marvel to “hire the best person for the job.”
