In the new episode, Doctor Cutter (played by Ellen Pompeo) remains in critical condition as she fights the coronavirus and is finally visited by George O’Malley (TR Knight) in his Covid-19 dream.
Although Knight’s appearance was also unannounced, previews of this week’s episode annoyed that another face from the past would reappear.
Knight dropped out of the series at the end of the fifth season, ending tragically after his character was hit by a bus. (He rescued a female stranger by getting her off the bus.)
George died prematurely and heroically when best friends met again on the beach, where they talked about death, grief and the impact George had on Meredith.
“You changed my life for me, George. I didn’t say that at the time, but it’s true,” she told him.
At the end of the episode, Meredith remained in a state of disarray but was treated under trial. Meanwhile, Tom Corasic (Greg German), who showed viewers that the last episode had coronavirus, showed signs of being mostly for milder fights, but it got worse.
“Granny Anatomy” airs on ABC on Thursday.
