There was big news last week about the college sports landscape as Big Ten and Pac-12 announced plans to play only conference games during this year’s fall sports season, while the Ivy League went one step further, canceling all fall sports.
Now the Ivy League has company, as another university conference is eliminating all fall sports.
The Patriot League consisting of American University, Bucknell, Boston University, Holy Cross, Colgate, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola (Maryland), Army and Navy, announced Monday that they canceled all fall sports by 2020.
The league added that both the Army and Navy are exempt from cancellations.
Army plays soccer as an independent division 1 while Navy plays soccer at the American Athletic Conference.
For now, Notre Dame is still slated to play in the Navy on Labor Day weekend, but I feel confident saying that it looks murky at best, just like college football overall by 2020.
