Aniston urges fans to wear masks while sharing photo of hospitalized friend

Last month Jennifer Aniston posted a rare selfie on Instagram to show herself wearing a face mask and urging others to do the same during the coronavirus pandemic. Now the actress is again using social media to criticize the importance of taking COVID-19 seriously.

On Sunday, the Friends star posted a photo of a man he identified as his friend Kevin, who is shown lying in a hospital bed with a ventilator and other tubes attached. A second image shows her and Courteney Cox, her close friend and former co-star, wearing tie-dye masks.

According to Aniston’s post, his friend Kevin “perfectly healthy” was hospitalized for COVID-19.

“This is our friend Kevin,” he wrote. “Perfectly healthy, it is not an underlying health problem. This is COVID. This is real. ⠀

“We can’t be so naive as to think we can escape this … if we want this to end, and we do, right? The only step we can take is PLEASE #WearADamnMask. ⠀

“Just think of those who have already suffered from this horrible virus. Do it for your family. And especially yourself. Effects of COVID-19 [sic] All ages.”

Fans praised Aniston for speaking and expressed good wishes for her sick friend.

Cox, meanwhile, shared a happier video. Her Instagram post shows her, Aniston, and a pair of puppies in masks.

Aniston and Cox are among several celebrities who have participated in the #WearADamnMask challenge started by designer Tory Burch. In its June 30 post, the Morning program Star called people who see the masks a political symbol, rather than a necessary precaution.

“There are many people in our country who refuse to take the necessary steps to flatten the curve and stay safe,” he wrote. “People seem concerned about their ‘rights taken away’ by asking them to wear a mask. This simple and effective recommendation is being politicized at the expense of people’s lives. And it really shouldn’t be a debate. “
