These are the trips … of a stolen spaceship. A new Star Trek cartoon series is coming to Nickelodeon in 2021, and it’s called Star Trek: Prodigy.
The title, logo and plot were revealed during a Star Trek Universe panel online during Comic-Con 2020, where we learned that the animated Star Trek series follows a group of “lawless teens” taking an abandoned Starfleet ship for a ride. Along the way, they shed adventure, meaning, and, hey, maybe even salvation.
More than 350 panels are underway for the virtual 2020 Comic-Con @ Home, which also includes Marvel, The Walking Dead, Bill and Ted, and more. Here it is How to watch Comic-Con @ Home, and here are some of Best Comic-Con moments from years past.
Star Trek: Prodigy is developed by Kevin and Dan Hageman, two of the Emmy Award winners behind Trollhunters and Ninjago. It is aimed at a younger audience, unlike the other animated series Trek Lower Decks, which premieres on the streaming service CBS All Access 6th August. Star Trek: lower decks has a more anarchic sensitivity thanks to creator Mike McMahan, a former writer and producer for Rick and Morty (Disclosure: CNET is part of ViacomCBS).
Captain Kirk and the crew sprang into animated action in the fondly remembered Animated Series in the early 1970s. Most recently, Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard joined the Trek universe. They will soon be joined by a show after Mr. Spock’s early days aboard the Enterprise in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and a series highlighting Section 31 of Starfleet’s black ops team.
Discovery and Picard are available to stream now on CBS All Access or Netflix and Amazon outside the U.S.
