Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ second summer update is now live, adding dreams, saving backups, a weekly summer fireworks show, and more to the popular Switch life sim. However, that is not all that is new in the game; the Nook Shopping catalog has also added some new items to its seasonal collection.
Three new items with limited time are available to order now: the rodeo-style jumping ride-on, the Hikoboshi outfit and the Orihime outfit. You can find these under the Seasonal tab in the Nook Shopping terminal, and each will be available through August 31st. The former cost 2,000 clocks, while the latter two are 2,500 each.
On top of the new season items, August brings a handful of new fish and bugs to catch in the game. Those in the northern hemisphere can now play in moral eggs, rays, and soft-shell turtles – including critters – from the ocean and river. This month also marks the last chance for players from Northern Hemisphere to catch various beetles and other summer insects. You can learn more in our fishing guide and buggy guide.
As mentioned earlier, the recent 1.4.0 update from New Horizons has also added a new summer event: fireworks shows. Every Sunday night starts at 7am your time, you can see fireworks in the game with your friends and villagers. Isabelle will be stationed in your town square during the show and give you a free wearable bopper. Redd will also have its own raffle tent, where you can win festive items such as balloons, pin wheels, and fireworks.
In addition to the in-game activities, update 1.4.0 has also finally added the long-promised island backup feature. This is only available to Switch Online subscribers, and it allows you to back up your New Horizons data in case you lose or damage your Switch. However, this feature works a little differently than the typical cloud savings offered through the service; you can learn more in our guide on how to save an Animal Crossing.
