Animal Crossing: New Horizon’s most popular items are ‘illegal fences’

There are many ways to decorate your Animal Crossing: New Horizons island. Nintendo has usefully provided players with hundreds of items: everyday things like tables and chairs for more adventurous collectibles like a giant (and expensive) robot. There are fantastic and random items like sewing machines and gym equipment, but none of these are New Horizons’ prized possessions, at least for a certain segment of players. Sometimes the most desirable items are the juuust out of reach. Like the Harv fence.

Harvey New Horizons’ hippie dog, lives alone on an island called Photopia. Most of its island is inaccessible. Everything is fenced in with an item named “Harv Fence” by the community, leaving only your home cut photography studio available.

The fence is simple; It appears to be made of tree branches. If i were Really available in New Horizons, I could ignore it. But it is not, it is illegal, an article technically in-game (on Harv’s Island) but not designated for players. It seems that everyone wants the fence: every time I see a social media post with them, it’s the first thing they comment on. “I love how everyone notices the illegal fences and not the damn illegal houses,” joked a Twitter user.

Like the star shard trees before, modders access the Harv fence that twists the code to change the state of an item. Those hackers then duplicate the fence stacks and pass them on to the community through exchanges, gifts, and sales. In the past few weeks, I’ve seen a lot of gifts for Harv fences, but the most common way to catch them is New Horizons black market, exchanging Nook Miles tickets through Discord or paying real money on eBay. You don’t need to have a modified Nintendo Switch to get these items, but there is always a risk with pirated items, so shop at your own risk.

Prices vary, but Harv fences will generally cost you a couple of hundred Nook Miles Tickets. Some people also sell other items on Harv Island, like their clothesline, wash bucket, and oven. But the real star? It’s Harv’s illegal fence.
