If you play Animal Crossing: New Horizons for any amount of time, you are probably fed up with the phrase, “I caught a sea bass! No wait, it’s at least a C +! Sea bass is so common that many players hate the poor marine citizen, it often tricks people into thinking they might have found a rarer fish. But what if you never had to see another sea bass again at Animal Crossing?
Such are the powers of mods, like this one from SmuggestGirl, which eradicates the green cockroach entirely. “Not all heroes wear capes, thanks!” a commenter on the mod page says. “Shucks, now [it’s] all the squid, the olive flounder and the red snapper now, ”says another.
Hilariously, there is also A mod that does the opposite. SmuggestGirl seems to be an agent of chaos, because they have also developed a “single bass” mod that causes all other varieties of fish to go extinct. Six brave souls in total have downloaded it so far.
On the more useful side, there’s also a color-coding mod to the fish, so you know what to expect. Common fish are yellow, while larger / rarer fish are red and purple. This way, there are no surprises when you launch your reel.
Unfortunately, you can’t experience any of these settings unless you’re running a modified Switch or playing an emulated version of the game. But it’s surprising to see the differences in potential experience: Animal Crossing hackers are making all kinds of quality-of-life adjustments that the base game urgently needs.
