Another Bug Off is just around the corner in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The bug-catching event returns for players in the Northern Hemisphere this Saturday, July 25, giving you another chance to win exclusive bug-themed furniture, clothing, and even trophies.
Like the Fishing Tournament, Bug Off is a long-standing tradition in the Animal Crossing series, but it works a little differently in New Horizons than in previous games. To help you catch up, we’ve broken down everything you need to know about Bug Off, how to get involved, and what prizes you can win below.
How does the error work outside of work?
The Bug Off is a recurring event organized by Flick, one of the many NPCs that will regularly visit your island. The Bug Off takes place on different dates depending on whether your game is configured for the northern or southern hemisphere, but it always falls on the third Saturday of the summer months:
North Hemisphere
Southern hemisphere
- November
- December
- January
- February
The Bug Off runs from 9 am to 6 pm Unlike your regular visits, Flick will be camped out in your town square throughout the event, so you won’t need to locate it. Just talk to Flick to enter the competition and he will give you three minutes to catch as many mistakes as you can. Once the time is up, go back to it to add up your points and sell your tour. You can enter the Bug Off as many times as you like until the event ends at 6 PM, but each entry will cost 500 bells.
What rewards do you get for eliminating the error?
Depending on how many errors you catch during a round, Flick will award you points. Every mistake you make is worth one point, and you’ll receive an additional two-point bonus if you can catch at least three before time runs out.
Points you earn during the Bug Off can be exchanged for exclusive prizes. Flick will give you a special piece of clothing or furniture with insect themes for every 10 points you accumulate. You can’t choose which item to spend your points on, as they will be randomly awarded, but you’ll get one of each before Flick starts delivering duplicates. You can see the full list of awards below:
Bug Off Awards
- Handmade insect cage
- Aloha Bug Shirt
- Insect cage
- Insect wand
- Butterfly backpack

- Ladybug rug

In addition to those prizes, you will also receive a special bug trophy if you reach certain benchmarks before Bug Off ends. Flick will tell you when you have reached these milestones, so you don’t need to save points or follow them. Your points will also carry over to the next Bug Off, so you won’t start from scratch every time. We have listed all the bug trophies and how many points you need to accumulate to earn them below:
Insect trophies
- Bronze Bug Trophy (mailed home after accumulating 100 points)
- Silver Bug Trophy (mailed to your home after accumulating 200 points)
- Gold Bug Trophy (mailed to your home after accumulating 300 points)
Bug Off Tips
Just like the Fishing Tournament, although you can participate in the Bug Off alone, your best option is to team up with a friend or two for the event. The number of mistakes each player catches will add up at the end of the round, making it much easier to collect points and win prizes.
Another thing to keep in mind when hunting insects is where they commonly spawn. You will often see butterflies, bedbugs, and other insects around the flowers, so keep checking the flower beds you may have around the island. Since we are in the middle of summer, you will also want to check the stumps and the palm trees, since that is where you will commonly find beetles. Be sure to check out our bug guide and our July Bug and Fish List for more details on what bugs are available now and how you can catch them.
KK Slider Rescheduled Concert
Since the Bug Off always takes place on a Saturday, KK Slider will not have their regular weekly concert that day, but you will still have a chance to see it live. Ahead of the game’s 1.3.0 update, the wandering musician would stop on his island on Friday during the weeks when an event will be held on Saturday; now, however, it will perform on Sunday. That means the next time you see it live this week is July 26, so don’t miss out on taking another KK song home with you.
