Angels trades Tommy La Stella in athletics for Franklin Barreto

Ak Cland Athletics acquired Tommy La Stella from Los Angeles Angeles in exchange for Franklin Barreto, several sources confirming to ESPN on Friday night, a second baseman’s swap that seems to be a mutual fit for the two teams heading in opposite directions.

A needed an upgrade to another base and got it at La Stella, the remaining free agent is .273 / .371 / .475. The Angels, who entered the series over the weekend against the Seattle Miners with a 10-22 record, gained more years of control six years ago with Barreto, a key part of Josh Donaldson’s trade, who did not enter the main league.

Barreto, 24, who is now out of options, has batted .180 / .210 / .360 in 219 plate appearances over the past four years. Anne’s game was American League’s best 22-10 record, but only .591 OPS from her second baseman. The position was largely won by Chad Pinder and light-hitting Tony Kemp.

La Stella, 31, was used primarily as a pinch hitter in his first five seasons with the Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs. But he did win some power with the Angels last year. Before fracturing his right tibia in early July. Shortly afterwards, La Stella appeared in her first All-Star Game on Crutches.

Angels have some more interesting outstanding agents in the shortstop Andrelton Simmons and catcher Jason Castro. They take help for their 2021 pitching staff but probably with better resources to get it. Have to participate. Infielders David Fletcher and Luis Rangifo and outfielder Brian Goodwin are among the names who can get better returns.

Athletic first reported the deal.
