Andy Cohen, the popular talk show host, couldn’t help but fight the coronavirus because he’s gay, according to CNN. Cohen, 52, shared with The View on Tuesday the fact that despite testing positive for antibodies to the coronavirus, health authorities are refusing to allow him to donate his plasma that could help critically ill patients with the virus. The reason, according to Cohen, is outdated by the FDA regulations that prevent accepting blood donations from men who had sexual contact with other men in the last three months before the date of the intended donation. The precious antibodies, found in plasma, have the potential to kill the coronavirus in patients with the disease. According to some health experts, after recovering from the coronavirus in March, Cohen joined a program at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York after responding to the hospital’s urgent call to donate plasma from people who had the virus. However, Cohen was rejected. “They are concerned about HIV in the blood,” said Cohen. Even though Cohen claimed he tested negative for HIV, they still rejected him.
