Updated: March 23, 2021 (4 AM ET): Google’s workspace status page indicates that the problem with Gmail on Android is fixed.

The company says that updating the Android system Webview and Google Chrome through the Google Play Store should now solve this problem for all users. The Play Store list for Webview shows that Google has rolled out a new version of the app (Work 89.0.4389.105). Chrome also received an update today.

Original article: March 23, 2021 (12:12 AM ET): Android users have been experiencing random app crashes for the past few hours. Apps like Gmail, Google, Yahoo Mail and others are constantly shutting down and behaving erratically. However, Google is aware of the problem and is working on a fix.

A Google spokesperson said in a statement to multiple publishers: “We are aware of the issue with Webview, which could lead to some apps crashing on Android. We are currently working to fully validate the scope and an improvement is in progress. “

The bug seems to affect all Android apps that use the Webview system component. Google apparently made a bad update to Webview, resulting in an Android app crash.
