Android 11 Beta 2 now available for OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro

OnePlus has now confirmed that Android 11 Beta 2 is now available to download and install on OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro.

The update was confirmed on the official OnePlus forums, and with the stable release of Android 11 for September 8, 2020, OEMs are expected to increase the speed at which beta versions ship to their devices.

While Android 11 Beta 2 is in a fairly stable state on Google Pixel hardware, the same update for OnePlus 8 series hardware is still fairly developer-focused. For that reason, we simply cannot recommend loading it on your primary device, especially since there are several known issues.

It’s also worth noting that beta versions are not compatible with the Verizon and T-Mobile variants of OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. Please do not install it if you have a device locked on any of the networks or you will encounter serious problems. For reference, here are some of the known issues with Android 11 Beta 2 on OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro:

  1. All data will be erased while compilation is updated
  2. Certain UI screens look less than desired
  3. Some camera functions are not available.
  4. Some apps may not work as expected
  5. System stability issues

Another thing to note is that while these builds are based on Android 11 Beta 2 builds, OnePlus still refers to them as Developer Previews in an attempt to avoid confusion. We are not sure why they didn’t just do this from the start in all honesty.

That said, if you know the risks and still want to install Android 11 Beta 2 on your OnePlus 8 or 8 Pro, you can get it through the following links:

If you don’t like the flawed and stripped-down nature of the update, you can always switch to Android 10 using one of the links below:
