He confirmed in a separate tweet that his speech is scheduled for around 9 pm ET next Thursday – the fourth and final night of the DNC.
Fellow California Democrat Ted Lieu also responded to the news, saying the lack of Asian American speakers at the DNC “is a blow to the face.”
A businessman, Yang stepped out of obscurity to become a highly visible candidate, and gathered a coalition of Liberal Democrats, libertarians and some unabashed Republicans. He promoted unique policy positions such as a universal basic income and his campaign slogan was “Make America Think Harder,” with the acronym MATH.
Political conventions typically have four full days of programming, but the coronavirus pandemic forced this year’s Democratic event to become four hours of coverage over two hours in a quarter.
Several former presidential candidates from 2020 are scheduled to speak, including Sens. Bernie Sanders, Amy Klobuchar, Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker and former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg.
The convention is scheduled to take place from August 17-20.
