Former presidential candidate Andrew Yang took the stage for the fourth night of the Democratic National Convention – and addressed Trump voters with his speech.
“If you voted for Trump, or did not vote at all in 2016, I will get it,” Yang said Thursday night. “Many of us are tired of our leaders seeming far removed from our daily lives.”
“We expect our government to one day meet the challenges of our time,” he added.
In an address somewhat darker than his usual jovial assumption about the country’s fiscal mismanagement and lack of jobs, Yang tackled the root of difficulties facing Americans – which is exacerbated by the coronavirus.
ANDREW YANG ACCUSES DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF ‘PATRONIZING’ AMERICANS FOR DNC SPEECH
“72% of Americans think this is the worst time we’ve ever had,” Yang said. “And 42% of the jobs lost – millions of jobs – will never come back.”
“We are sitting in a deep, dark hole, and we need leaders who will help us dig ourselves out,” he added.
Yang has been critical of the Democratic Party, saying Democrats may be “patronizing” earlier this week in an interview with the Washington Post.
“If we do not stand up for the trucker, the waitress or the retailer, then who do we stand for?” Yang told the Post. “There’s this necessary element to a lot of what we say and do, and it hurts us. And it’s wrong, unproductive, it’s a great way of not winning.”
But Yang also pointed to Biden as an individual who understands struggle and hard work.

He also tried to relate to Trump voters who are full of DC politicians, saying his 2016 presidential election was a “symptom of a disease that has been building up in our communities for years and decades.”
Yang, who dropped out of the 2020 presidential race in February, supported Biden through March.
“We need to give this country a chance to recover – and recovery is only possible with a change of leadership and new ideas,” Yang said Thursday. “Bold and innovative policies that get help in the midst of this crisis are now possible – but we need your help to turn the page for 75 days in our country.”
