Andrew Morton says Meghan Markle may be frustrated that she is unable to respond to claims

Lady Diana biographer Andrew Morton has claimed that Meghan Markle may feel sensitive due to the fact that she could not speak for herself.

Speaking during Channel 5 documentary Harry and Meghan: The New Revelations, which airs tonight at 9pm, the royal author, best known for writing Diana: Her True Story, reveals how he feels about ‘poor’ Meghan , who wanted to do her best when she joined the royal family.

The documentary takes a deep dive into upcoming book Finding Freedom, focusing on the events leading up to Prince Harry and Meghan’s decision to retire as senior royals and move to the US.

It follows the trajectory of the couple from their engagement to their first year of marriage, strained relationships with the press and rumors of a split with The Firm.

Commenting on the Duchess of Sussex’s first steps as royal, Morton claims that 21st-century woman Meghan was bound to fight to conform to the ‘say nothing’ royal rule of thumb – adding that Finding Freedom was her chance to to set the record immediately.

While both the authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex themselves have denied any royal involvement, some have argued that Harry and Meghan are behind some of the most telling quotes in the bombshell book.

Morton goes on to say that he finds that Finding Freedom was Meghan’s way of trying to express how she approached the royal family and ‘how she was impressed by the easy criticism of everything she tried to do. ‘

‘She is frustrated by the fact that she could not give her side of the story,’ he explained.

‘All kinds of stories have come out about her and she couldn’t answer back, and it’s something she found incredibly frustrating.’

Morton adds that Prince Harry’s apparent hostility to the media, and especially to tabloids and paparazzi, has only grown stronger over the years.

The documentary is about the fact that Meghan, an active, outspoken feminist and wanted to talk about various political issues, would experience a ‘culture clash’ with the traditional – and white – royal family.

Morton also says he feels that modern woman Meghan wanted to do her best when she moved to the UK to be with Harry.

‘I feel for this poor girl, I mean, she came into this country, parachute in,’ he explains. ‘She is married in a very difficult family, which everyone finds difficult to get into.

‘And she’s someone who did not know very much about British history, British culture and as she herself said’ she will run the ground ‘.

‘And she hit the ground running, but she found that she came up against a brick wall.’

Looking back on Meghan’s first involvement with the Queen, which took place in 2018 at Merseyside, Morton says that Meghan ‘tried her best’ but had no idea how she would behave.

‘She did not know the protocol, she did not know the etiquette. I’ll give you a perfect example, ‘he explains. ‘She went with Liverpool to Liverpool, and she sat on the chairs and it’s a windy day.

‘She does not know which side of the car she should be in, to go out, in which hand her handbag is to be held, and you can see that kind of confusion in her face. ‘

‘Meghan, though she’s an actress, had to change the red carpet for the royal roadshow.’

Lady Colin Campbell, who wrote Meghan and Harry’s true story, does not share Morton’s sentiment, saying the Duchess was too American to fit in with the royal.

“Meghan has very American expectations, she’s all about trust, go-getting, hustling, and all those Hollywood things she’s raised to consider desirable,” she explains.

Harry and Meghan: The New Revelations airs on Channel 5 on Saturday at 9 p.m.
