Andre Dillard injury: Eagles let the 2020 season approach with biceps tear

Philadelphia Eagles start left tackle Andre Dillard is set to miss the entire NFL 2020 season after suffering a biceps injury during Thursday’s training camp, according to NFL Insider Mike Garafolo.

We describe how Dillard’s injury occurred in current practice notes:

Dillard kept his hand / arm in pain after going 1-on-1 against Josh Sweat. Dillard was squatting and kneeling a bit to the side when coaches examined him. Dillard left the field and did not return to practice. About him being rebuilt throughout the camp. He left the practice earlier Sunday morning. During a recent BGN Radio podcast, my co-host Jimmy Kempski also said that Dillard was seen on crutches at one point before the camp began. That … maybe he’s dealing with more than one injury? [UPDATE: Derrick Gunn notes that Dillard suffered a biceps injury in addition to a shoulder strain he was dealing with.]

Dillard did not have the best camp before he was injured. He still has a lot to prove when it comes to being a long-lasting answer at left tackle. And he will unfortunately not get a chance to do that much this season.

With Dillard injured, the Eagles will likely slide Jason Peters back to his natural position for left tackle. Peters has been on the right in training camp and Brandon Brooks suffered a season-ending injury in June. Matt Pryor figures as the man who fills in for Brooks now with Peters back to the outside to replace Dillard’s vacancy.

Given concerns about Dillard’s performance, Peters on the left tackle and Pryor on the right guard may actually be the Eagles’ best offensive line combination in the short term. But Peters will probably also retire at some point and it is not entirely clear who would replace him if that happens. The Eagles put first team reps to Jordan Mailata in practice, but the Aussie is far from a sure-fire option.

There are real concerns about the state of the Eagles’ offensive line this season.
