“Witnesses were called to say they attacked a person with a shark,” said Joan Hill, a spokesman for the ambulance service. “We went to the scene. I understand they haven’t met anyone yet. ”

The search was called for late Friday night, but police planned to launch the first search on Saturday, ABC Australia said.

“Given some of the accounts given to us, the chances of survival are very low,” Tarasinky said.
