AMC Theaters, which has since closed on March 17 due to the coronavirus pandemic, opened some of its doors on Thursday, charging patrons only 15 cents to celebrate.
Of the 600 theaters across the country, 100 reopened Thursday, including metropolitan areas such as Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, Las Vegas and St. Louis. Louis.
In an exclusive interview with FOX Business’ Liz Claman, says AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. CEO Adam Aron, although his theaters are on limited capacity, he was proud to announce that they were “sold out” in many of their theaters nationwide.
“Welcome, America, back to the movies,” Aron continued. “We sell only 30 percent of our seats, and so today we are almost sold out all over the country.”

“We’ve been waiting here for five months, and we’ve spent so much time and effort making sure we open up safely, cleanly, responsibly,” Aron said of “The Claman Countdown.” “Everyone wears masks. Social distance is very important. We have set up plexiglass shields.”
In addition, Aron says the theaters have gone “high tech,” with measures such as electrostatic sprayers and HEPA air filters.
“You could eat from the floor of our theaters, they’ve never been so clean,” bragged Aron.
The low cost is roughly equal to what the company’s founders realized in 1920, when it launched on a single movie screen in Kansas City, Mo.
The opening day movies did not include any new movies. The lineup includes films such as “Empire Strikes Back,” “Black Panther,” “Grease,” “Ghostbusters,” and “Back to the Future.”

AMC AND UNIVERSAL REACH DEAL OF THEATRIC EXCLUSIVITY AND ON-DEMAND RELEASE
AMC hopes to reopen two-thirds of its locations before Sept. 3. The company’s planning is dependent on state policies, where major cities such as New York and Los Angeles have not advanced their reopening times to allow cinemas.
The theater chain initially had to reopen its locations on July 15, but was delayed several times.
