(Reuters) – Amazon.com Inc’s (AMZN.O) Cloud Computing Unit will be the Japanese Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) build a platform to help manage and monetize data collected from the automaker’s global vehicle fleet, the companies said Monday.

Toyota said its Mobility Services Platform enables it to process and analyze data that can be used to develop automotive services from driving and auto parts to behavior-based insurance and maintenance notifications.

The deal is an extension of Amazon Web Services’ existing partnership with Toyota, and marks the expansion of the e-commerce giant in the transportation industry.

In July, AWS announced that it was expanding its partnership with German Volkswagen AG (VOWG_p.DE) to help develop the automaker’s cloud-based software and data portal in a sector-wide marketplace where business customers can buy and sell industrial applications.

In the automotive sector, AWS has previously partnered with automakers such as Aptiv, Panasonic Corp and Nvidia Corp, major carriers such as Uber and Avis, and self-drive heavy truck startups Embark and the TuSimple of China.
