Amazon Prime Video Launches Windows 10 Desktop App

The dedicated Amazon Prime Video app for Windows 10 is now available on the Microsoft Store, the company announced Thursday. It allows you to stream videos and download them for offline viewing. While it has always been possible to stream Prime Video content through a browser like Chrome, there was no way to download videos to a Windows device for offline viewing until now.

Amazon has recently beefed up its original streaming content to compete with rivals like Netflix and Hulu. That includes critically acclaimed shows like Flea bag, The wonderful lady Maisel, and Homecoming. A recent report found that the company is “actively seeking” live TV licensing deals, and earlier this week, it introduced a Watch Party feature in the United States for up to 100 people to stream with friends.

The Windows 10 app is free, but a subscription to Amazon Prime Video costs $ 8.99 per month. Amazon Prime subscribers, who pay $ 119 for an annual subscription, get Prime Video for free.

An initial test by The edge He found that the Windows 10 app would not stream higher than HD (720p) resolution, similar to the limits of the iPad version of the app, although it is possible to stream 1080p HD through a web browser. The download option has three levels of video quality, Good, Better and Better, and each level progressively uses more storage. But the application does not indicate the resolution corresponding to each level. A 52-minute episode of Tales from the loop in the Better configuration it took up about 2.74 GB of space.

According to the company, the app can stream and download up to 1080p HD, “but it may vary by content.” In testing, we were unable to get more than 720p across various titles, even though they are listed as “4K UHD” in the app itself.
