Amazon orders more than 1,800 Mercedes-Benz electric vans

Amazon has placed an order for 1,800 electric vans at Mercedes-Benz – adding to the 100,000 electric vans it has on order at Rivian.

Last year, Amazon announced a new initiative called ‘The Climate Pledge’.

It is a commitment to carbon neutrality in the company and as part of the new initiative, Amazon confirmed that it was ordering 100,000 electric vans with Rivian, a startup of electric cars that the retail giant heavily invested in ordering.

Today, Mercedes-Benz announced that it has become a member of Amazon’s Climate Pledge and along with joining the promise, they have also received a major order of electric vans from the company – though not as impressive as Rivian’s commission.

Amazon has “ordered more than 1,800 electric cars from Mercedes-Benz Vans.”

The order includes about 600 medium-sized electric vans eVito and more than 1200 cars of large electric vans from eSprinter.

Marcus Breitschwerdt, head of Mercedes-Benz Vans, commented on the announcement:

“I’m glad we’re strengthening our long-standing partnership with Amazon and working together on the battery-electric future of transportation. With the eVito and the eSprinter, we have electric cars in our portfolio, ideally suited to the requirements of “The courier, express and parcel service sectors deliver goods on the so-called ‘last mile’ in terms of their equipment and range. They show that local emissions-free driving, convincing performance, comfort and low operating costs can be perfectly combined.”

The German carmaker said it would start delivering cars in Europe by the end of the year.

Rivian’s electric order bus for Amazon is coming next year.

Mercedes-Benz last year released the first details on the electric version of its popular Sprinter van.

The eSprinter is equipped with a battery capacity of 55 kWh for “an estimated range of 150 kilometers with a maximum load of 900 kilograms.”

Mercedes-Benz says there will be “a second battery option” with a “41 kWh capacity” that “can increase the device by about 140 kilograms to a total of 1040 kilograms with a range of about 115 kilometers.”

The company also has the eVito, a medium-sized delivery bus with a 41.4 kWh battery for a range “around 150 km” (93 miles), according to the German carmaker.

With an 84 kW electric motor, the delivery van can reach a top speed of up to 120 km / h (74 mph).
