Amazon launches Triangle for new tech, enterprise stocks in $ 1.4B expansion

RESULT TRIANGLE PARK – It’s certainly not HQ2, but internet giant Amazon is adding 3,500 technology and business jobs in its latest expansion.

Unfortunately for the Triangle, none of those jobs are coming to North Carolina.

About two years have passed since Amazon passed Raleigh-Durham – one of the declared finalists in the procurators – as the site for a campus for second headquarters. And while the company continues to add jobs as distribution centers in the Triangle area, as well as in North Carolina, it opted for six other cities for the new expansion that will add up to $ 1.4 billion according to the announcement made Tuesday.

The six cities Amazon named as their Tech Hubs:

  • Dallas
  • Detroit
  • Denver
  • new York
  • Phoenix
  • San Diego

And against a trend toward remote working during the COVID-19 pandemic, Amazon said it is investing in additional offices and infrastructure.

“People from all walks of life come to Amazon to develop their careers – from recent graduates looking for a place to turn their ideas into high-impact products, to veterans gaining access to new jobs in cloud computing thanks to our upskilling programs, “said Beth Galetti, Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Amazon, in the announcement. “These 3,500 new jobs will be in cities across the country with strong and diverse talent pools. We look forward to helping these communities grow their emerging technology workgroup. ”

The jobs are meant to focus on a variety of Amazon services, including cloud computing (AWS) and operations.

“The company expects to hire for a variety of roles, from cloud infrastructure architects and software engineers to data scientists, product managers, and user experience designers,” Amazon said.

Amazon continues with the construction of a new distribution center in Garner and also plans a distribution center in Cary.
