The entire Michigan State soccer team will either be quarantined or isolate itself for 14 days after a second staff member and an athlete tested positive for COVID-19, the school announced Friday.
“As part of the athletic department’s return policy to campus, student athletes are quarantined when they come into close contact with an individual who tests positive for COVID-19,” the school said in a prepared statement. “The university has designated available areas to house quarantined individuals as needed based on the living arrangements for student athletes.”
MSU paused training on Wednesday after a staff member tested positive for the coronavirus. The school will conduct another round of surveillance tests before deciding whether to resume training.
While all players will be isolated or quarantined, only staff members who have tested positive or shown symptoms should be quarantined for a period of 14 days.
No staff member from the Michigan State Athletics Department had tested positive during the school’s first rounds of testing.
Friday marked the beginning of the improved summer access period for college football teams, which allows up to eight hours per week for weight training, conditioning and movie review, and one hour per day for both meetings and a tour of the that soccer can be used.
