Alex Trebek has good days and bad days while battling pancreatic cancer.
“There was a day a few weeks ago when [my wife] Jeanie asked me in the morning, “How are you feeling?” And I said, ‘I feel like I want to die.’ It was so bad, ”Trebek told ABC News. “I apologize and explain that it has nothing to do with my love for her or my feelings for her.
“It just has to do with the fact that I feel like I’m a terrible burden on her, and that bothers me enormously.”
The “Danger” The 79-year-old host credited his 30-year-old wife for overcoming him in his most difficult times.
“She is a saint,” said Trebek, holding back tears. “She has so much goodness in her that she always gives up, she always strives to help me overcome difficult times. And there have been some difficult times. I am amazed at the way he handles it.
Trebek, whose new memory, “The Answer Is …: Reflections on My Life,” comes out Tuesday, saying he has become good at “pretending” how he feels.
“There have been difficult times. And I don’t know what it is, but when it’s time to go, it’s time to go, ”he explained. “Let’s do it. Get out there, hold on, make it happen.
Trebek’s love for the show motivates him to keep fighting so he can keep presenting.
“My doctor told me he expects me to celebrate two years of survival after the diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer. And that two years pass in February,” Trebek said. “So I hope I am close because he said I will be close.
“And I hope to host the show if I’m around.”
