Alec Bohm leads the Phillies to a walk-win with 2 huge hits

The Phillies continue to give leads and rallies for victory. They did it on Monday in New York and now they do it on Tuesday in Philadelphia.

Rookie Alec Bohm hit a big day on the plate with a two-run single with two outs at the bottom of the seventh inning, with the doubleheader helping the Phillies to a 6-5 win over the Boston Red Sox in Game 1.

Earlier in the game, Bohm scored two runs in the third inning to give the Phillies a 4-1 lead.

Phyllis Pitching failed to defend that lead, but the team extended the lead to 21-17. The Phils are 12-3 in their last 15 games.

Phillies pitched the pitcher for four solo home runs.

The Red Sox took a one-run lead, giving reliever Tom Me Hunter two runs in the sixth. Hunter had little room for error after starter Zack Affleck left a pair of homers in the fifth to turn the Phillies’ three-run lead into a one-run lead by the Red Sox.

The Phillies Starters have allowed opponents to cut lead for the past two days. Zac Wheeler led 6-0 before allowing three of five in New York on Monday. The match eventually went into play, but the Phillies rallied for a 9-8 victory.

Bohm’s seventh inning hit the pitching staff out of this. Bohm scored four of Phyllis’ four runs. His game-winning hit came against Matt Barnes after Jetty Realmuto left and Didi Gregorius became single.

Day of Aflin

Efflin went in five innings and went out with a one-run lead. He dropped eight hits, including three solo homers, one running and six scoring.

Left-handed heaters continue to give offline fit. All three homers he left were left-handed hitters, including five back-to-back shots. Those two Homers were turning the Phillies into a one-run lead.

Entering the game, right-handed batsmen were hitting .191 with .526 OPS against Eflin and hitting hitters on the left .339 / 1.019.

Efflin has allowed seven homers to six left-hitters in 37⅓ innings.

The hunter’s run is over

Girard went to his hottest reliever to save a one-run lead in the sixth, but Hunter couldn’t work. He left the game-tying homer with one out to Bobby Dalbeck, then hit hard with two outs. Bryce Harper’s jump pushed Boston forward, paving the way for Raphael Devers to start a double RBI from the right field wall. Divers also does homework twice.

Hunter had an eight-innings scoreless streak in the game.

Big hit for Bohm

The Phillies earned some three-run fights to break the 1-1 tie in the third – with some Boston ops – or mental error, error, wild pitch and three walks.

Bohm hit the only single in the innings and it was one of the most important – a two-out on a full-count pitch, a two-run single up. It was a nice bit to hit from a two-strike and it gave the Phils a 4-1 lead that they could not finally lock.

Bohm had a game-pace-tied single in the eighth inning with a 9-8 win over the Mets on Monday.

Gregorius went home for the first run of the day in Phyllis.

Harper’s Conflict

Slumping Harper went 0 for 3 with a walk. He has scored .158 (9 for 57) in his last 18 games. He is running a 14-game domestic drought.

Harper’s struggles appear to be worn on him. To end the fourth inning he landed in a -6–6–3 double game and jogged on the first base. He then felt the reflective moment to take off those batting gloves and move towards his position.

Harper came into the big situation at the bottom of the sixth – two outs, two men and Phils run down. He popped up in center field against right-header Ryan Brazier.

Roster additions

Teams were allowed to add one extra player for the doubleheader. Phyllis added left-handed relief Garrett Klewinger. The Red Sox added catcher Davy Grulon, a former Philly.

Grulo has hit home૨ homers at double A and triple A in the last two seasons and scored 1,136 runs and appeared in four games with the big club last season. Last week when the roster spot was needed, Phillies hired Grulon for the assignment and Bost claimed to have pardoned him.

Grulon started his Red Sox behind the plate in Game 2 of the doubleheader.

Now the next

Vince Velasquez (0-0, 6.00) will face right-hander Chris Chris (0-1, 6.00) in Game 2.
