Alaska in seven days has recorded just under 25% of its combined total of resident and non-resident cases of COVID-19 since the first cases were reported in the state in early March.

Tuesday’s update from the state Department of Health and Social Services showed 54 new cases registered in Monday’s 24-hour period, 40 among residents and 14 among nonresidents.

The new cases bring the combined total to 1,899. Of these, 1,579 are attributed to Alaska residents, and 320 are attributed to non-residents.

From Tuesday, July 7 to Monday of this week, the state obtained 472 cases combined, 24.85% of the state total.

Five of the new resident cases were from Fairbanks residents. The other cases were from Anchorage, Wasilla, Soldotna, Juneau, Palmer, Sterling, the Valdez-Cordova Census Area, and the Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area.

Cases of non-residents of people were reported in Anchorage, the combined districts of Bristol Bay and Lake & Peninsula, the northern Kenai Peninsula district and the Petersburg district. The location of three other people is listed as unknown in the state report.

Of the total cases of state residents, 920, or 58%, are listed as active, and another 642 are from people who have recovered. Seventeen Alaska residents have died, some of them out of state, from causes associated with the disease.
