Alan Lazard proves to the Packers that he is a playmaker

The Packers are filing a crime, but perhaps the most encouraging sign is that they are finding new ways to do it every week.

On Sunday night, it was Alan Lazard’s turn.

With a wide mustering injury, the giant receiver Davant Adams was out and wanted to run after the Saints Aaron Jones, the lesser known wide from Iowa State made big plays during the -30 37-30 win over the Saints.

Lazard had a career-high 146 yards and six catches for touchdowns.

“Allen is just becoming such a consistent performer for us,” said Packers coach Matt Laffler, via the team’s official website Wes Hodgkues. “He has earned everything he has. I think he has the respect of all his teammates. I can speak for the coach, he’s got all our honors, and he’s become a really, really relevant high-level player for our offense. “

After the game, Lazard was celebrating with his first game ball since the 2017 Liberty Bowl, when he performed in the state of Iowa. He became irrelevant after that season, and the Packers signed him from the Jaguars Practice Squad in late 2018. He started showing signs last year (35 receptions and two touchdowns for 477 yards), but nothing like last night’s breakout game, which included a reception. There are 48 and 72 yards.

“I think we have the best deep ball thrower in the league, if not the history of the NFL,” Lazard said of quarterback Aaron Rogers. “To be able to go there and connect with the plays that I think is huge. . . . It only builds confidence for us, it takes away their confidence, their power if they have it.

“To be able to connect on that deep deep pass, even for me I think I’m going to be able to gain more respect in my vert game by keeping in mind I’m slow.”

Maybe, but he was quick to fill the step when the Packers needed it.
