Only six current active coaches have won national titles. Two of them will meet on Saturday while No. 2 Alabama will play the role of No. 13 Texas A&M Host on Saturday. Crimson Tide is a favorite to bring him back to the college football playoffs and win his sixth national championship under coach Nick Saban. Jimbo Fisher and Aegis are not in the same boat.
Before Texas can win a national title under A&M Fisher – which Fisher was brought to College Ledge Station, Texas to do – he must first get through Alabama, Ub Burn and LSU and win the SEC West crown. The AGISO has yet to do so as members of the SEC, and they last won the division title in 2010 when they split the Big 12 South with Oklahoma.
The nearest Eggs reached the West to win, their first season of the division in 2012. It was also the last time A&M beat Alabama when it led Johnny Manziel to a 29-24 upset. With seven straight Alabama wins, the game is winning the tie with an average of 21.7 points each. In the two seats under Fisher, Aggie has been outsourced 92-51.
Storylines
Alabama: Is the prefix on Alabama starting to break a bit? Tide missed the college football playoffs for the first time in the history of the event last season, and they have lost three of their last five games against ranked opponents. One of those disadvantages is the LSU at home last season. Was in, breaking a 31-game home winning streak. There were also questions about how the team would look this year after losing more talent for Tua Tagovaloa and the NFL. Well, if last week’s win over Missouri is a sign, anyone who writes to Alabama can quickly look stupid. The team controlled the entire game, and with the exception of Georgia’s D’V Math Math Math Thiss, while throwing fewer passes than any other QB in the SEC, Ben Jokia’s mid-game bench, Mc Jones did a lot of damage. Still, Alabama doesn’t judge anyone by what they do against Missouri. The game will be the first test of the season in the eyes of many.
Texas A&M: As mentioned above, Fisher was not brought to Texas A&M to win eight or nine games a season and to win New Year’s Day Bowl games in Florida. You will not guarantee a coach 75 75 million in 10 years for anything other than a national title. So far, Fisher has not delivered. Aegis was 17-9 in its first two seasons and 9-7 in the SEC. Yet, Fisher has also raised recruitment expectations at the College Ledge station, and entering his third season, he has more talented rasters than the first two. This is the year where people expect to look one step further. The move was not clear from last week’s 17-12 win over Wonderbilt. Was that a case of early season rust? A vanilla gameplan because Aggies didn’t want to put anything on tape for Alabama? Or was it just an ominous sign of things to come? We’ll start to find out this weekend.

I always had a very strict rule of thumb when choosing Alabama sports at the SEC. In general, when Alabama is at home, you can trust it. It does a better job of covering the spread when it comes to the road. But, when we look closely at the results, the tide performs better at home with a larger spread. In 26 SEC games under Soap when they favor 17 points or more – as they are here – they have gone 16-10 ATS.
