Alabama added 1,669 new cases of coronavirus on Friday, a day after setting the record for new daily cases at 2,283. The 7-day average for new cases is now 1,750, below its 1851 high set last Sunday.

The Alabama Department of Public Health also reported 38 new deaths from coronavirus – on the third consecutive day, the state has added at least 32 deaths. The 7-day average for reported daily deaths rose to 23.3, just below the record set earlier this week.
Due to the way deaths are reported, there may be a delay between when someone dies and when their death is recorded as a coronavirus death. It is unclear when the 38 deaths reported on Friday occurred.

The state now has 74,365 all-time coronavirus cases and 1,395 virus deaths. ADPH reported this week that more than 32,500 of the state’s all-time cases are supposed to have been recovered.
Jefferson County, the home of Birmingham and the state’s most populous county, added most new cases on Friday with 257. Jefferson has added no less than 187 cases in any of the past 10 days, and now has nearly 10,000. confirmed in total. cases, more than nations like Norway or Finland, and most of any county in the state.
Madison County, home of Huntsville, had the second highest daily total of cases in 154. Mobile added 104, the only other county with more than 100 new cases on Friday. Montgomery, Alabama’s fourth largest county, added 93 new cases.
18 Alabama counties now have at least 1,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus since the pandemic began.

Eight new deaths were reported in Dale County overnight, most in the state. Dale County is home to less than 50,000 people. The eight new deaths double its total virus death count, which is now 16. Madison County reported five new virus deaths. In Madison County, 21 people have died from the virus there since the pandemic began.
Jefferson and Mobile counties, which have seen the highest total death counts in the state, did not report new deaths on Friday.
