Alabama opens fall camp with only one player sidelined by an injury

Alabama started Monday with preseason, and only one player has to deal with an injury.

Junior linebacker Ale Kaho has a “slight knee injury,” head coach Nick Saban said during a Zoom call with local and national reporters. Saban said Kaho will probably be out for a few days.

Earlier this offseason, Kaho shared a boomerang video on his Instagram story, showing his left leg in a brace, which contained the words, “If it’s not one thing. It’s the other. Story of my life.”

Kaho has played the last two seasons in all 28 of the Crimson Tide’s games and has been one of the top players on the special teams team, as well as a reserve in linebacker and has even been used on offense as an H-back / fullback. Last season, the Reno, Nev., Native recorded 20 tackles and blocked three points, the last of which in 2019 led the entire nation.

Last year, Alabama lost two inside linebackers to an injury prior to the start of the season in veterans Dylan Moses en Joshua McMillon. Both players are back on the field, along with the other players who are missing some or all of the 2019 campaign as they return Trey Sanders, lines of defense LaBryan Ray en DJ Dale a placekicker Will Reichard.

“They’re all good to go,” Saban said Monday. ‘They’ve been going all summer, all spring. Yes, they are gone. No problem.”

As for the players signing up for the upcoming 2020 season – whether as a result of concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic or to focus on their pro careers – Saban had no update on that. The 14-year-old head coach keeps this information in the house today.

“We will keep all those issues internal to our team,” Saban said. “The players have asked me to do that, and I agree with them. That’s what I mean by privacy laws and what we need to do to protect boys in college football. If and when a player is ready to make an announcement about it, we will give it to you, and that will be his prerogative to do so. ”

The Crimson Tide will rehearse on Tuesday, August 18th. Selected players will speak for reporters with reporters while attacking coordinator Steve Sarkisian will be made available after.
