There is a chance that Alabama and Notre Dame will be in a season-opening seismic showdown this fall, according to Gary Stoken of the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic on Friday at the Thom Abraham Show on ESPN Radio. Notre Dame would potentially replace USC as the first Crimson Tide opponent in South Bend, Tuscaloosa or Dallas after the Pac-12 recently announced that it would remove its non-conference roster this season.
Notre Dame is reportedly working furiously to complete its schedule as three of its 12 scheduled games have already been eliminated: Wisconsin (October 3), Stanford (October 10), and USC (November 28), after those leagues altered their season. . Much of that focus has revolved around the ACC, according to reports, and for the Alabama tilt to work, the Irish would have to move their first scheduled game against the Navy in Annapolis.
Stoken, who oversees the Chick-fil-A series of games, said many different matchups are being discussed over the opening weekend in addition to the Alabama-Notre Dame possibility. Two years ago, the two shows announced a future home and home series. The first meeting will take place in South Bend, Indiana, on September 2, 2028, with Notre Dame returning for the trip to Tuscaloosa on September 1, 2029.
They last met in the final of the BCS National Championship to wrap up the 2012 season, just Alabama’s second victory over the Irish in seven all-time meetings.
Gary Stoken of Chic Fil A Kickoff Classic said on the show that Notre Dame has been featured as a week-long opponent for Alabama in South Bend, Tuscaloosa or Dallas … and there is a setting where Virginia-Va Tech plays in Atlanta if ACC / SEC goes the “Conference +1” schedule

Before the pandemic, Chick-fil-A’s original starting schedule for early September was as follows: West Virginia vs. Florida State on September 5, Virginia vs. Georgia on September 7 and North Carolina vs. Auburn on September 12.
Former Notre Dame quarterback Brady quinn He hinted Thursday that Notre Dame could play against an SEC team this fall, but did not mention a specific team.
“Don’t be surprised if you don’t hear about Notre Dame vs. an SEC game this year,” Quinn said on Sportstalk Xtra 106.3. “I’m just saying. A historical rivalry that could be there.”
