Alabama strikes again, this time landing four-star cornerback Devonta Smith from Cincinnati (Ohio) La Salle. Smith recently retired from the state of Ohio before announcing his news on Monday night via his Instagram account.
“Alabama has always been the school of my dreams and I have always wanted to go compete with the best and be coached by the best,” said Smith. “And also get my degree, spend my four years there.”
Smith has never made a royal visit to Tuscaloosa. He’s been in a game, so he’s familiar with the atmosphere. In addition, he made a virtual visit with the staff this low season. Once Nick Saban He came calling, however, there wasn’t much recruiting that UA had to do.
“I can’t even lie to you. Bama has always been the school of my dreams, ”he said. “I have always admired Coach Saban. He is my idol. Smith actually has a unique bond with Crimson Tide, as he is the first cousin of Shaun Alexander, Tide’s former star runner. Saban actually turned to Alexander in the recruiting process.

At 6-foot, 185-pound Smith is rated No. 30 cornerback and No. 400 overall player in the country, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. 247Sports rates Smith as a four-star recruit and the 23rd cornerback in the country.
With the commitment, Alabama jumps to the top 20 in the 247Sports Composite Team Recruitment Ranking.
